Are Job Ads Getting More Complicated or Is It Just Me?

I have been out of the working world for awhile because I’ve been trying to launch my own small business. However, the business just isn’t as successful as it needs to be so I’m in the process of trying to apply for the first part-time job that I have applied for in years. I thought it would be a lot easier than it is turning out to be.

I have a lot of experience in office work which is what I’m trying to find. I also have experience in publishing and marketing so I’m looking specifically at doing office work in those types of businesses. But apparently I don’t know enough about them anymore because the job ads that I have been reading all request skills and knowledge that I just simply do not have. Some of them are things that I don’t even know what they mean.

I was looking at an ad for a receptionist position the other day that included the line: “must be familiar with offset triad printing, the building of web landing pages and the provision of other fulfillment services“. Can you tell me what that means? I sure can’t. And I’m terrified to go into an interview and to be asked about things like this when all I want to do is get a job where I can answer the phones and take down messages. But I guess they have machines that do that these days don’t they?
