Portfolio Boosting: Write Your Own Design Tutorials
By PRP on Feb 3, 2008 in Internet
If you know anything at all about web design you can add a boost to your personal portfolio or resume by writing design tutorials that share this knowledge. That’s because design tutorials are fairly easy to write but they look complex to the average reader. They show off your technical skills as well as your writing ability. Additionally, they point to the fact that you’re a self-motivated individual since you took the time to compile the information.
If you think that you don’t know enough about web design to write a tutorial, think again. Consider something that you’ve done on your own site which took a little learning. For example, perhaps you downloaded free phpBB templates and then went to a template forum to learn how to use them on your site. This is something that you could write out step-by-step in a tutorial to assist someone else in doing the same thing.
Another thing that you can do is learn some new skills from design tutorials that are already available online. Then put these skills together into one process. For example, learn how to add photos, video and audio to your site from three different tutorials. Then write your own that combines all three in a simplified way. You’ve created something that’s useful to others and boosted your portfolio at the same time.
