A childhood addiction problem

When I was younger my father was in and out of alcohol treatment centers.  Florida was the last place I saw him when I was 10, heading in for yet another bout of treatment.  My mother moved us to another part of Florida while he was in and I lost track of him after that. I didn’t handle my parents’ split all that well and when I was around 14 I realized that I had developed my own problems.

By the age of 15 I had landed in a Florida alcohol treatment center, following in my father’s footsteps.  It was a rough haul, but thankfully I got excellent help and was able to stay clean with regular meetings and the support of the treatment center staff.

Unfortunately kicking my alcohol addiction didn’t mean I wasn’t immune to other addictions, including gambling and drugs. A stint in a Florida drug rehab when I was 21 was the best decision I had ever made, and really helped me get my head on straight. The counseling was very holistic and helped me deal with other issues such as extremely low self esteem and fear of abandonment.

Now I am completely clean and plan on staying that way, no matter what.
